Track Surveying Standards & Calculation Methodology
TrackMarking.com is an open computational civil utility built to provide accurate mathematical setting-out coordinates, lane staggers, and diagonal squaring checks for sports facilities.
Governing Bodies & Statutory References
Every formula, curve radius adjustment, and diagonal lock on this platform is calculated directly from the published technical handbooks of international governing bodies:
- World Athletics (WA): Track and Field Facilities Manual (Chapter 2: Marking Plan for 400m Standard Track, TR 14–17).
- American Sports Builders Association (ASBA): Running Tracks: A Construction and Maintenance Manual.
- International Tennis Federation (ITF): Rules of Tennis Appendix IX (Court Dimensions & Tolerances).
- FIBA: Official Basketball Rules (Court & Equipment Specifications).
- IFAB / FIFA: Laws of the Game (Law 1: The Field of Play).
- MCC: Laws of Cricket (Laws 6 & 7: The Pitch and Creases).

Open Mathematical Methodology
Instead of proprietary black-box calculations, our calculators expose the underlying geometry so field crews and groundskeepers can verify coordinates on paper:
- Pythagorean Triangulation:
c = √(a² + b²)used for squaring all rectangular envelopes to eliminate parallelogram skewing. - Two-Turn Stagger Formula:
S_n = 2π × (R_run,n − R_run,1) = 2π × ΔR, compensating for the 0.30m raised kerb vs 0.20m flush line measurement rules. - Diagonal Excess (DE):
DE_n = √(S² + ΔR_n²) − Sapplied to calculate true break line compensation in the 800m and 4x400m relays.
Deterministic Client-Side Processing
All calculations execute deterministically in your local browser runtime. No input data, coordinates, or project dimensions are ever sent to remote servers or tracked via analytics cookies.
